A Site on the State of the UK

Among the digital age we've seen many attempts by numerous governments to censor the Internet in various ways. And now, we have seen a shift in the United Kingdom; whilst under the Labour Party, the government has silenced, restricted, and controlled media under the justification of "safety" and the "security" of the people.

A Legislation such as the "Online Safety Act" has granted the Government and service providers the ability to monitor, restrict, and remove content which may be harmful to the government or labeled as "harmful media." This represents a broader shift in the United Kingdoms political environment whilst the line between safeguarding civilians and preserving privacy has been blurred. If left unchecked, the UK government risks slowly turning into a censored state with little to no freedom of speech or the justified right to voice a persons rightful opinions.

First they came for the whistleblowers,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a whistleblower.

Then they came for the journalists,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a journalist.

Then they came for the activists,
and I did not speak out
because I was not an activist.

Then they came for citizens,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

A poem based off the original poem First they came… made by Martin Niemöller.
